Bergenfest 2027: where to stay, eat and what else is on in Bergen

Bergenfest 2027 runs from Wednesday 9 to Saturday 12 June at Bergenhus Fortress, right next to Bryggen in the centre of Bergen. This is the practical side: how to get there, which hotels are closest to the fortress, where to eat before the gigs and what else is happening in town that week.

When and where is Bergenfest 2027?

Bergenfest 2027 takes place on 9-12 June, four days from Wednesday to Saturday. As always, the stage is Bergenhus Fortress, the old stronghold at the far end of Bryggen, with the harbour on one side and the medieval town on the other. Visit Bergen calls it the largest music festival in Western Norway, and you feel it across the city: hotels, restaurants and bars fill up from Wednesday onwards.

The line-up is released step by step on bergenfest.no. The first name confirmed for 2027 is Alex Warren, playing on Wednesday 9 June.

Tickets are sold through Ticketmaster. Festival passes are already on sale, and separate passes for the Wednesday have been released. Check the organiser for current prices and ticket types.

The festival is open to anyone aged 15 and over, while younger children must be accompanied by a guardian over 23.

Bergenhus Fortress: a stage with 750 years of history

Few festivals have a backdrop like Bergenfest. Bergenhus is one of the oldest fortresses in Norway, and inside its walls stand Håkonshallen, the 750-year-old royal hall, and the Rosenkrantz Tower. Just outside is Bryggen, the old Hanseatic wharf of wooden buildings on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

So you can spend the daytime on history and the evenings on music without moving more than a few hundred metres. Wander the narrow passages of Bryggen before the gates open and see the fortress in daylight. A few hours later, standing in front of the stage with the harbour behind you and a light June sky above, you will understand why locals talk about this festival as something special.

During the festival, the medieval Håkonshallen is itself one of the stages.

Getting to Bergenhus Fortress

The fortress is within walking distance of the whole city centre, and walking is the easiest option. From the Fish Market, follow Bryggen along the harbour heading north, and the fortress walls appear after a short stroll.

Flying in? The Bybanen light rail runs from Bergen Airport Flesland to Byparken in the city centre. From there, walk on to Bryggen and the fortress.

A few tips before you go:

  • Leave the car behind. Parking around Bryggen is limited, and the centre is easy on foot.

  • Pack a rain jacket, even if the forecast looks good. This is Bergen in June.

  • Arrive early. With thousands heading the same way, queues build quickly at the gates. In 2026 the gates opened at 15:00 on Wednesday and Thursday, 14:00 on Friday and 12:00 on Saturday. Tickets are exchanged for a wristband at the entrance, and large bags and umbrellas are not allowed in.

Where to stay for Bergenfest

All six of our hotels are in Bergen city centre, and all of them are within walking distance of the fortress. The difference is how short your walk home is, and what you want around you once the music stops.

  • Bergen Børs Hotel sits right by the Fish Market and Bryggen. It is our closest hotel to the fortress, with Frescohallen, Fresquito and a wine cellar of 1,300 labels under one roof.

  • Skostredet Hotel is on Domkirkegaten, in the heart of the historic bar and restaurant quarter. The right pick if you want life outside your door at night and a spa to land in the morning after.

  • Heimen Hotel is the more affordable option, centrally located with Bryggen and the Fish Market a short walk away. Family rooms are available.

  • Grand Hotel Terminus and Zander K Hotel are next to Bergen railway station. Handy if you arrive by train or airport bus, but expect a slightly longer walk to the fortress.

  • Villa Terminus has 18 rooms in a listed villa with a garden. A quiet place to sleep when your ears are still ringing.

June is peak season in Bergen, and festival week is among the busiest. Book your room as soon as you have your ticket. [SJEKK: om De Bergenske har eget festivaltilbud eller pakke]

Coming as a group?

Bergenfest is a favourite for groups of friends, colleagues and families travelling together. If there are many of you, it pays to put all the rooms in one request rather than booking separately.

Send a group accommodation request and we will help you find rooms for everyone, ideally in the same hotel. Tell us how many you are, which nights you need and whether you also want a table for dinner before the gigs. [SJEKK: om gruppeforespørsler kan kombineres med restaurantbord]

Tips for the group:

  • Decide early which festival days you are going, so you do not pay for nights you will not use.

  • Book dinner together, ideally somewhere built for sharing, such as Fresquito or Izakaya Skostredet.

  • Check breakfast times. Heimen Hotel serves breakfast until 11:00 at weekends, Zander K until 10:30. Useful to know after a late night.

Where to eat before the show

Festival food does the job, but there is something special about starting the evening at a proper table. Pick a place near Bryggen and you will make the first act.

  • Bjerck Restaurant & Bar sits by Bryggen and the city fjord, with views of the water and the street life. Fish, seafood and a relaxed feel. As close to the festival as you get, with a fjord view thrown in.

  • Frescohallen at Bergen Børs Hotel means dinner in one of the most beautiful rooms in the city, open all day.

  • Fresquito serves Spanish tapas and drinks. Good for a group that wants to share and not spend the whole evening at the table.

  • Izakaya Skostredet has Japanese small plates, sushi and skewers made for sharing.

  • Áurea Nikkei on the third floor of Bergen Børs Hotel, where Peruvian flavours meet Japanese precision.

Festival evenings are busy everywhere. Book ahead and let the restaurant know you are heading to a gig. [SJEKK: om restaurantene har egne festivalmenyer eller tidlige seatinger]

After the last gig

When the fortress empties, the crowd flows back into the centre. If you are not ready to call it a night, you have options close by.

Haven on Øvre Ole Bulls plass is a covered outdoor restaurant, open all year, that turns into a night spot with a DJ and cocktails in the evening. It is a stone's throw from Torgallmenningen. [SJEKK: åpningstider i festivaluken]

Amundsen Bar & Bistro at Grand Hotel Terminus has an award-winning whisky collection and a calm, historic bistro atmosphere. A good place for one last dram and a debate about the best song of the night.

The morning after

The music does not start until the afternoon, so the morning is yours.

Start with breakfast. Bergen Børs Hotel serves what it calls the finest hotel breakfast in Bergen. If your body needs more than coffee, Skostredet Spa is a good place to reset: a snow room, cold and warm plunge pools, sauna and steam bath. A session lasts two hours, enough for two or three rounds of heat and cold. Guests must be 18 or over.

Prefer fresh air? Take the Fløibanen funicular up or go for a walk in the Bergen city mountains. The view of the city you danced in last night is worth the climb.

In town on the Saturday? Frescohallen has live jazz every Saturday from 15:00 to 17:00. A gentle start to the final festival day, with good food in a room worth the visit on its own, before the short stroll to the fortress. [SJEKK: at Frescohallen Live går lørdag 12. juni 2027]

What else is on in Bergen that week?

Bergenfest 2027 overlaps with the final days of the Bergen International Festival, which runs from 26 May to 12 June. That means you can pair a gig at the fortress with classical music, theatre or dance in the same week. Håkonshallen, one of the festival's regular venues, stands inside Bergenhus Fortress itself.

Beyond that, June is one of the best months to be in Bergen. Long light evenings, outdoor tables along the harbour and fjord boats leaving from the centre every day. Stay an extra day and see the city at a slower pace once the festival is over.
