An overview of events in Bergen on the National Day

It is the 17th of May Committee in Bergen that is responsible for the complete programme for the year's biggest celebration day for both young and old.

We have gathered some of the most important things on the programme for May 17th:

06:45 The day starts at Dreggen.

07:00 Festive cannon salute from Skansen.

07:00 Morning parade from Dreggen to the accompaniment of Krohnengen Brass Band and Lungegaardens Marching Band.

07:00 Ringing of the church bells at Domkirken, Korskirken (the Church of the Cross), and Mariakirken (St. Mary's Church).

07:20 Bell ringing from Johanneskirken (St. John's Church) tower as the morning parade passes.

07:25 Wreath laying at the Christie Pillar at Muséplass. Speech by the leader of the Student Society in Bergen.

07:30 Wreath laying at the memorial plaque for John Lund at John Lundsplass. Bergenssangen (the Bergen Song) is performed by the Krohnengen Brass Band

07:40 The morning parade ends at Festplassen with a speech on the future by the President of the Graduating Year of Upper Secondary (Russ) and a speech for Bergen by the leader of the Student Association. The Krohnengen Brass Band performs.

08:00 Wreath laying at the Chr. Michelsen's statue.

08:15 Memorial ceremony for those who fell in war at Nonneseter Minnehall. Speech and wreath laying by a member of the 17 May Committee. Guard of Honour by the Naval Academy. Krohnengen Brass Band performs.

09:00 Fun fair opens at Festningskaien.

09:00 Nynorsk celebration service at Domkyrkja church.                                                          

09:45 The main parade assembles at Koengen.

10:30 Boat parade – The city harbour parade starts at Hilleren.

10:30 After "Leve Eidsvollsmennenes minne" is song and there is a cannon salute from Skansen, the main parade embarks on its scheduled route.

10:40 The flag parade departs and follows the set route.

12:00 Festive cannon salute at Bergenhus Fortress.

12:30 Rowing parade from Kaigaten.

12:45 Speeches at the Viking Ship after the main parade.

13:00 Concert in Domkirken Cathedral by the Student Choir Society.

13:00 Rowing races at Vågen.

13:30 Concert in the Music Pavilion featuring Dragefjellets Marching Band.

13:30 The climbing poles open at Festplassen square.

20:00 Gospel night at Johanneskirken (St. John's Church). Free admission.

22:30 Torchlight procession from Bergenhus to Festplassen.

23:00 Cairn lighting on the City Mountains.

23:05 Prize ceremony for the best parade float and for the winners of the races.

23:15 The celebrations at Festplassen with fireworks.
